DOW SILICONE-BASED SEALANTS
Dow silicone sealants offer a number of advantages over organic polymer sealants; tough, durable, and versatile, silicone-based sealants can provide reliable adhesion to an array of industrial materials, including wood, glass, ceramics, and painted surfaces, as well as most metals and plastics. Once applied, they remain stable over a wide temperature range, from -70 to 350°F (-56 to 177°C) for most products, with some specialty items capable of withstanding heat up to and exceeding 500°F (260°C).
These sealants are also resilient against the elements. Even when exposed to extreme weather conditions, ultraviolet rays, and radiation, Dow products will not crack, crumble, or become brittle, nor will they degrade under exposure to most chemicals and atmospheric pollutants.
These versatile sealants can be used in a variety of electronic applications, such as thermal cycling, and are resistant to burning in fire conditions. Silicone sealants can provide protection for more than three times as long as organic materials can, with proven advantages in many different industries and applications. And for customized solutions, Dow’s Color It Right program provides customers with a range of color options for silicone sealants, allowing for unlimited design possibilities.

Room-temperature vulcanizing sealants, or RTV sealants, based on a moisture cure system, provide excellent adhesion to glass, organic fibers, and metal while remaining water- and chemical-resistant, as well as temperature-stable.
Alternatively, heat cure sealants require less cure time than RTV sealants, while hot-melt silicone sealants offer instant green strength and are ideal for automated assembly operations. Our one-part material options use external factors such as moisture, heat, or UV light to perform the curing process, while our two-part material options may involve more complex processes for application but allow for longer shelf life, high-speed curing, and more flexibility with working and cure times. As a final example, we also sell silicone foams, which are used to create reliable environmental seals against dust, water, and moisture; these serve as cost-effective alternatives to foam tapes or preformed gaskets.
